OUGD503 FEVER TREE - ALCOHOL BOTTLE PRIMARY RESEARCH

Stopping off in Duty Free on the way back from a trip was a really great opportunity to see a whole variety of limited edition alcohol bottles and their labels, which would be hard to find outside of Duty Free. This research is useful to see what the tonic water bottles would be paired with, as they have to look as if they would fit in in this environment.

Grey Goose Vodka

Grey Goose Vodka is one of the much more expensive brands of vodka, so it's much more sophisticated as fewer people can afford it. The more traditional bottle shapes have a translucent appearance to them, which hide the shine of the glass, adopting a matte effect. This allows for more detail in the imagery, with transparent parts, coloured part, and shiny parts. They have a transparent part which shines through the drink and shows a pattern on the inside of the other side of the bottle, which acts as a background of pattern almost for the transparent pattern part. This is a really interesting and unique idea, as you get a different view from each angle.

Zubrowa Vodka

These bottles all feature a central label with the detail featuring around it. Similar colours are used, shades of green, which tie the varieties together.

Grouse Whiskey

These Grouse bottles take on a more photographic approach for the label, perhaps with it being whiskey and not vodka, so has a different, perhaps older target market, with that age group preferring images rather than illustrations to know exactly what they're getting.

Absolut Vodka

Absolut takes on a more abstract approach, using the flavours as inspiration for the patterns for each bottle, which definitely attracts a younger audience, and shows a more artsy appearance. Absolut Elyx has a different shaped bottle distinguishing it from the more traditional bottles, which gives it a more sophisticated appearance, especially with the lack of any illustrations or imagery, instead replaced with a more sophisticated label.

These two types of spirit using a detail on the glass itself, which is produced when the bottle is moulded, which creates a more sophisticated appearance, much more elegant and refined, especially when accompanied by the gold and white simple labels.

Researching the alcohol bottles and their aesthetic has really helped show what kind of design the Fever Tree bottles must adopt to fit into this more sophisticated and sleek world.
